You can drive a train under mainline conditions by joining our "Dream Come True" program. Anyone can do it! We have packages available for railmotors and locomotive hauled trains. No previous train driving experience is needed, and families are welcome to come along for the ride.

Our Dream Come True packages are run for individuals or groups of two people, so that each participant gets individual attention. The first thing to decide is which train you would like to drive.

Back to School

One of the first things to do is learn the basics of railway safety, signals, trackside features and emergency procedures. You will also need to know about the main line which runs from Nyora to Korumburra, over many challenging grades. Then it is necessary to learn a bit about the train that will be used for your experience. This usually takes until lunchtime, with all tuition provided by one of our fully qualified senior drivers.

We provide lunch for the participant(s) at 12.30pm. Family members are encouraged to join at this time (at their own expense).

Preparation

The most important part of operating a train of any kind is the preparation of the locomotive or railcar before starting out on the mainline. There are things to check, inspect and test even before the engines are started. This preparation is vital to the safe and effective operation of the train while out on the line. Every Dream Come True participant is given expert tuition on the preparation of the particular vehicle chosen for the day. You need to come prepared to get your hands dirty. There's oil to check, fuel to load, water to top up and pit inspections to carry out. You will be rewarded however - good preparation means a good trip - and that's exactly what we offer you when you join us to make your Dream Come True.

How do I get started?

You need to obtain an application form, complete it and send it to us with your payment at least 14 days before the date you choose to participate. It is a good idea to nominate a first and second choice for the date to avoid disappointment.

Dream Come True packages make ideal Christmas or birthday gifts. Why don't you make your Dream Come True on the South Gippsland Railway. Packages can also be tailor made.

Dream Come True Packages

 

The standard Dream Come True package runs from Korumburra to Nyora and return, a distance of 40km. Each Dream Come True will incur a $100 fuel levy.
	DERM	The total price for this package is $520.00 + $100.00 fuel levy = $620.00 (incl. GST)
	Redhen 402	The total price for this package is $520.00 + $100.00 fuel levy = $620.00 (incl. GST)
	Redhens 402 & 311	The total price for this package is $650.00 + $100.00 fuel levy = $750.00 (incl. GST)
	Diesel Locomotive Y135	The total price for this package is $800.00 + $100.00 fuel levy = $900.00 (incl. GST)

Other packages offering shorter or longer trips are available upon request.

Price includes 12 passengers travelling for free, and $5.00 per head thereafter.
